Welcome from our Family – the Guinns!
Hi, we are Spencer and Carly Guinn! We started Circle G Farms in 2012 with the purchase of a former dairy farm in Danville, Kentucky. Since then, the property has transformed into a modern operation, while preserving our ties to the farm’s past. The old dairy barn serves as the heart of our consumer experience. Sustainable farming practices pay homage to Spencer’s grandfather, Luther Guinn, bringing back cover crops to preserve the land and feed our cattle on half the farm.
After fixing some fences, we started with a small cow herd. The first animal we brought to the farm was Annie, an orphaned calf, who is still part of our cow herd today.
Our farm soon felt like home. Beginning in 2017, an experiment on a 10-acre field forayed into the start of the wholesale produce and heirloom corn business. Our heirloom corn has stayed, honoring Kentucky’s heritage in the bourbon industry; while our wholesale produce has morphed into our CSA and Dinner’s in the Bag offerings.
In 2019, curiosity got the better of us. The heirloom grain provided the base of some great bourbon! What could it do for our produce customers? So, we began raising and selling freezer beef, and stone grinding our corn into cornmeal and grits. Our heirloom corn continues at the heart of both of those ventures.
In 2020, pigs came to the farm thanks to our daughters. Our oldest daughter dreamt of the idea of Sister G Farms and thought swine should take center stage! Our girls care for the livestock, tried their hand at showing, but ultimately enjoy offering their pork to Circle G Farms customers each fall.
Today, we currently have grain crops including heirloom and yellow corn, soybeans, wheat, and rye. We also offer a complete garden with produce selections including tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, potatoes, peas, beans, zucchini, squash, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, onions, pumpkins, gourds, and anything else our customers might need.
